Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we approach the conclusion of our third decade of Hallowe’ens haunting the Sanborn House here on Midvale, I must thank all of you for your years of support. Your appreciation of our work has kept this fun and has inspired me to come up with new shows each year. The donations of coffee for the crew, of candy to hand out, and the thank you notes over the years have not gone unnoticed or unremembered. Last year a neighbor stepped into a role at the last moment when we were in a pinch. This year our music was put together by a complete stranger up in Sacramento who had heard through a mutual friend that I needed help! Every year, our actors and crew donate their time and their talent to put this show together primarily, I believe, because of a shared love of Hallowe’en and because they believe that there is value in giving something to the community. My faith in the inherent goodness of people is restored each year by putting on these shows.
As always, I must thank my mother, Janet Sanborn, for carrying on the Hallowe’en traditions of her mother and for supporting my mad efforts all these years.
Being the third installment of the “Trick or Treating on Monster Street” saga, this show was a lot of fun to write, particularly because so many of our actors from six years ago (and, in a couple of cases, eleven years ago) were reprising their roles so I knew exactly who I was writing for. I think, among all the shows we’ve done over the years, the Monster Street shows hold a special place in our hearts because of all the friends we have there, even if they are rather monstrous and unprincipled friends. Good role models, these characters are not.
Next Spring, the All Hallows Players will be launching a new venture as we shoot our first Hallowe’en feature film on digital video. A musical based on one of our past shows, we are very excited about the project and would welcome the help of professionals and talented individuals who might be able to donate their time and talents to help bring this project to life. If you feel you’d like to be involved in such a project, please e-mail me.
You can also e-mail me if you’re interested in a C.D. of the music of some of our past shows. Or, best of all, I’d love for you to e-mail me and let me know if you did anything special for Hallowe’en this year or if you plan to for next year. We Hallowe’en fans have to stick together!
I hope you enjoy(ed) our trip to Monster Street.
