Did You Know...

...that it is important to let your veterinarian know if there are very young children at home?

Why? Because there are special concerns for small children as well as for pets living with small children.

Little kids tend not to always wash their hands when they play in dirt or with the pet. This puts them at risk for parasite infections. Roundworms (which cause blindness in children) are contracted through oral contact with fecal contaminated dirt, sand, or litter. Dogs and cats can take preventives to keep them from posing hazards to children. Hookworms can be contracted from bare feet in contact with dirt.

Toddlers tend to be clumsy, can scare a dog and get bitten. Pet safety is especially important when dogs and children are together. And vice versa, a small child can cause a great deal of stress to a pet especially if they play too rough.
