DID YOU KNOW...
...the City of Los Angeles has a program for managing feral/stray cat colonies?
STEP ONE: Get a humane live trap. (Amazon has many to choose from).
STEP TWO: Bring your trap to the animal shelter for inspection by an Animal Services Officer.
STEP THREE: Get your trapping permit.
There are 3 types of trap permits.
- Trap/Neuter/Release permit allows for setting traps in public or private land for the purpose of sterilizing the trapped cat and re-releasing him or her to the original location (but there is an option to put the cat up for adoption or placement in the "Working Cat" program if appropriate).
- Same as above but is limited to setting the trap in a specific private location.
- Allows for trapping but the cat is brought to the shelter for evaluation for adoptability vs. being placed in the "Working Cat" program.

WHAT IS THE WORKING CAT PROGRAM?
Los Angeles Animal Services recognizes that unsocialized cats that are not suitable for adoption can still have a valued place in society for pest control. Feral/stray cats can be relocated to an area with a rat problem to assist in rodent control. This program was the brainchild of our very own Melya of Voice for Animals rescue and has been successful throughout the city.
Spay/Neuter expenses and vaccination are paid for by the City via a voucher program.
For more information, visit: City Wide Cat Program
It is not legal to trap cats in the city of L.A. without a permit.

THERE IS AN AVIAN INFLUENZA SITUATION GLOBALLY.
HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza) is currently widespread in wild and migratory bird populations. Infection has been disastrous to endangered species of birds worldwide. At present, it has gotten into the dairy industry and contaminated raw milk supplies, sickening farm workers, sickening cattle, and killing exposed cats.
- Yes, the poultry industry is at risk and restrictions on foreign/imported products are currently in place.
- Human to human transmission so far has not occurred with this virus but there is concern about mutation as influenza viruses survive through mutation.
- The virus has gotten into the dairy industry and there have been at least two raw milk recalls.
- People have been infected from both infected birds and infected cattle.

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CAT ACCESS TO RAW DAIRY PRODUCTS, WILD BIRDS, OR RAW FOOD DIETS. Feline deaths have occurred with these exposures.
Avoid raw dairy products yourself as well.
